Chelsie Mathews
County Assessor

Chelsie Mathews was born and raised in Laramie. She graduated from Laramie High School and the University of Wyoming. She and her husband Joe have been married 18 years and are raising two daughters, Taylor and Sammie. She is a third-generation member of Soroptimist of Laramie.
She began working in the Albany County Assessor’s Office in 2009 and has held multiple positions there. She has maintained her certified property appraiser designation since 2010 through ongoing education and training. In November 2021 the County Commission appointed her County Assessor.
In that role she has improved consistency and efficiency by developing internal staff guides, implementing cross-training, and creating a formal proofing system to raise data accuracy. She rebuilt the Assessor’s website to give the public better access to information and began including detailed explanatory letters with Notices of Value so taxpayers can better understand assessments, value changes, exemptions, and the appeal process.
Chelsie is running for re-election as a Republican. She remains committed to assessing property fairly, accurately, and equitably under Wyoming statutes and Department of Revenue rules. She will continue hosting town halls on legislative changes and working with state legislators so taxpayer concerns are heard. Education builds understanding and transparency builds trust—principles that guide her work every day.
