Joel H. Defebaugh

Joel Defebaugh has made Albany County his home for more than a decade. As a Deputy County Prosecuting Attorney for the past eight years, he has prosecuted serious criminal cases, handled both misdemeanors and felonies, and represented the county in civil matters. He has tried 18 jury cases, the majority involving felony offenses.
Since 2022 he has also served as a Judge Advocate in the Wyoming Army National Guard, advising military commanders on legal and ethical issues. That dual experience in the courtroom and in uniform has sharpened his judgment and ability to make clear decisions under pressure.
He is the Republican candidate for Albany County Attorney. He believes the office should deliver experienced, steady leadership and fair, impartial justice every day. Charging decisions start with the law and the evidence. He supports evidence-based alternatives such as adult and juvenile diversion programs that hold appropriate first-time or low-risk offenders accountable while addressing underlying issues and improving public safety.
Joel Defebaugh is ready to lead the Albany County Attorney’s Office with the same practical focus and integrity he has brought to prosecuting cases and serving in the National Guard.
